Why is a top Canadian player being released?
Canada’s top hockey prospect, Andrew Campbell, has been released from his contract.
He’s been released on Wednesday.
The 21-year-old centre was set to sign a one-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings on a two-way contract worth $925,000.
Campbell will be eligible to sign with any NHL team this season, and will likely join the Blue Jackets on the waiver wire.
Campbell was part of the team that won the gold medal at the World Junior Championships in 2017.
Campbell scored three goals and five assists for nine points in the gold-medal game.
